Impervious to Interference and Dropouts

THX Roomcaster employs three powerful elements – Ultra-wideband radio technology, low power transmission, and a real-time mesh network – to eliminate interference and dropout issues once and for all.

Ultra-Wideband

Unlike most wireless speaker systems, which operate in the 2.4 GHz band and are vulnerable to interference from devices such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, WiFi, and Bluetooth, THX Roomcaster uses ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, which operates in the 3 to 10 GHz range and offers interference-free performance at room-size distances up to 30 feet. Like all UWB radios, THX Roomcaster can detect and avoid any interference in its environment.

Low Power Transmission

UWB systems operate with low wireless power. This low power not only saves energy, but also means that THX Roomcaster only “shares the air” with other UWB radios operating in the same room, rather than competing for air time over the whole neighborhood. Better still, the WiMedia UWB standard has been carefully written to ensure that UWB radios seamlessly coexist with one another, with very well-defined bandwidth allocations and guaranteed bandwidth sharing within the channels.

Real-Time Mesh Network

THX Roomcaster treats the wireless surround-sound system as a network, and actively monitors the link status between all of the elements in the system. Every speaker can talk to every other speaker, and every speaker is “smart,” unlike other wireless speakers, which have simple receive-only capability and no notion of a network. If THX Roomcaster detects that one speaker is receiving a weak signal, another speaker will re-transmit the signal to that speaker, in real time, until the signal is perfect.
